When it comes to anti-aging, we often think about our face and forget about our hands! Hands are one of the first places to show signs of aging, and yet they’re often neglected when it comes to skin care. Having a well presented hand and polished manicure is highly underrated. Let’s get into looking after our hands and how to create the perfect at home manicure.
For me, I always feel my best when I have dewy skin, a fresh blow-out and manicured nails. Since having Spenny my nail game hasn’t been so strong, but I did make the effort to paint my nails at home every few weeks so I felt good about myself (#selfcare!). So when we started our time off in Perth I thought I’d start going back to having gel nails, as I love the 20 minutes of time for myself and that the manicure lasts longer than a week. After a few months, my nails were getting weak and brittle – not cute, or comfortable. So I decided to get back on the hand care game and start looking after them a little better!
The first step in looking after the skin on your hands is to make sure you’re using a moisturiser or hand cream every day. This will help to keep your skin hydrated and will help to prevent wrinkles and age spots. You should also make sure you’re using a sunscreen when you’re out in the sun, as UV rays can also cause premature ageing of the skin.
It’s also important to give your hands a break from gel manicures. Gel manicures can be hard on the nails and the skin, so it’s important to give your hands a break from them every once in a while. Instead of gel manicures, try a more natural approach to keep your nails looking healthy and strong. Also, we use a UV lamp to set them…so we’re ageing them through this process! If you do go for your gel nails, be sure to apply SPF prior to your appointment to keep your hand protected.
Another important step in looking after the skin on your hands is to regularly exfoliate. This will help remove any dead skin cells and help to keep your hands looking younger and smoother. You can use an exfoliating scrub or a gentle exfoliating cloth. Both of these will help to remove any dry, flaky skin and help to keep your hands looking younger and healthier. Sounds a little odd, but it’s worth doing once a week.
Finally, it’s important to keep your hands hydrated. You should drink plenty of water throughout the day and make sure you’re using a moisturiser or hand cream to keep your skin hydrated. This will help to prevent wrinkles and age spots and will help to keep your hands looking younger and healthier, and feeling so much nicer. I’ll never have supple skin like my baby Spenny, but I can do what I can to try!
Another thing I love to add into my routine is a collagen supplement to boost strength and growth.
Taking care of your hands is an important part of anti-aging and keeping your skin looking its best. With a few simple steps, you can help keep your hands looking young and beautiful for years to come!
Create the perfect at home manicure with just a few simple steps!
Step one: start with a clean slate. Make sure your nails are free of dirt, oils, and old polish.
Step two: apply a base coat. This helps protect your nails from staining and will make your manicure last longer.
Step three: pick your favorite nail polish! Whether it’s a classic red, a trendy pastel, or a vibrant color, make sure to use a high quality polish to ensure a smooth, even finish.
Step four: apply two coats of polish. Let each coat dry completely before applying the next.
Step five: finish with a topcoat. This will help your nails maintain their glossy shine and lock in your color.
Step six: clean up any mistakes. Use a nail brush dipped in nail polish remover to clean up any mistakes or smudges.
And there you have it—the perfect at home manicure! Show off your freshly painted nails and rock your new look with pride.
