When it comes to makeup, the possibilities are endless. From the subtle and natural to the wild and dramatic, there is a look for everyone, but today I’m going to break down the simple way of achieving a glow makeup application.
Applying makeup can seem intimidating at first, but with practice and patience, anyone can learn to make the most of their features and create looks they love. The key, as with everything I do in life is to make it simple. It takes the overwhelm (and time) out of the process.
Before you begin applying your makeup, it is important to have the right tools. Make sure you have a good quality makeup brush set, a few sponges, and a few different types of makeup.
Start with a good quality foundation and concealer, which will help create a smooth and even base for your makeup, and my trick to creating a flawless and lasting finish is to have a setting spray!
Once you have the right tools and products, you can begin to apply your makeup.
The first step is to apply your foundation. Start by dotting the foundation onto your face and then blending it out with a brush or sponge. Make sure to blend it into your neck and chest area as well. I personally enjoy using a brush to apply foundation to the face, and a sponge for concealing (easier to get into the shapes around eyes and nose). When it comes to foundation, it is best to start with a light layer and then build up coverage depending on the look you are going for.
Next, apply your concealer. This is used to cover any blemishes or discoloration. You can use a brush or sponge to blend the concealer into the skin. Make sure you don’t apply too much, as it can look cakey if it is not blended properly.
Once you have finished applying your foundation and concealer, it is time to move onto your eyes. Start by applying a light eyeshadow base all over your lid. This will help give your eyeshadow something to stick to and will help it last longer. Then you can start to apply your eyeshadow. Start with a light colour on the inner corner of your eye and then blend out to a darker shade on the outer corner. Make sure to blend the colours together for a seamless and blended look.
After you are finished with your eyeshadow, it is time to move onto your eyeliner. To apply the eyeliner, start by drawing a thin line close to your lash line and then smudging it out for a more smokey effect. My favourite trick for a subtle, yet impactful liner is to use a pointed brush and slightly dampen your brush with water and apply it to your eyeshadow – it will intensify the colour, but will keep your natural look with the elevated glamour.
Next is your blush, bronzer and a dash of highlighter. Start by applying your blush to the apples of your cheeks and then blending it up towards your temples. Make sure to use a light hand when applying the blush, as too much can look too intense for this day time glow. To finish off the look, apply a light dusting of bronzer to your cheekbones and forehead to give your face a sun-kissed glow – my tip is to do the number 3 shape on each side of your face; forehead, cheeks and jawline (bring it slighly under to blend into the jawline/neck).
Your highlighter should be slight in application, whether you choose to use powder or stick you want this to be subtle (not full strobe effect). I like to dab it on the top of the apples of my cheeks/on the orbital bone under my eye and bring it out towards my temple. If using a stick, your sponge will come in handy to blend it in.
For the complete dewy look, here is where you use your setting spray.
The last step is to apply a light coat of mascara to give your lashes a fuller look.
Applying makeup can seem intimidating at first, but with the right tools and products, anyone can create a look they love. Start with a good quality foundation and concealer, and then move onto eyeshadow, eyeliner, mascara, blush, and bronzer. Be sure to blend everything together for a seamless finish. With practice, you can learn to create looks that are perfect for any occasion.
