Having been in the beauty industry for a very, very long time I do know what I’m looking for when it comes to perfecting my skin care, and the time spent on it.
When I fell pregnant, I knew I needed to swap out some of my holy-grail products (like retinol) for something else that would make my skin feel and look lovely but that wasn’t going to be harmful to the growing babe.
Since we also live up in Karratha (in North West Western Australia), which is quite warm all year round, my skin had also found its natural equilibrium when it came to hydration vs oil. But, as I was pregnant and hormones were now in play I didn’t quite know what to expect with my skin, so as I transitioned it off the results driven cosmeceuticals to an all natural skincare range, I decided to keep my skincare and routine relatively simple. The results were actually better than I thought – my skin totally transformed to the best it had been, ever.
HYDRATION: My skin loves Herbivore Emerald Glow Oil & Pink Cloud Moisturiser
I knew that for my skin to truly thrive it needed hydration; hydration to well, hydrate, but also to plump, firm, keep oil at bay and to make it function at its best. Hydration for the skin is quite literally your foundational slab that builds a great skin! I doubled down with a deep hydrating serum and a lightweight moisturiser that seals in my serums. The Emerald oil I have been using day and night, and I swear it has plumped out my fine lines like no-ones business. It is now my ultimate skin product. If I could only use one product for the rest of my days, it would be this.
I buy mine from Revolve (very quick delivery!).
NUTRITION: I love the serums and morning balm from Jane Scrivner
While I haven’t been able to use stronger cosmeceuticals, it doesn’t mean that my skin isn’t going to be able to receive the nutrients it needs to be at its best. While yes, generally cosmeceuticals have a tighter formulation which allows for fine, deep layered skin penetration of ingredients, technology is changing so rapidly that even the most natural range can deliver nutrients right where the skin needs it to work.
Jane Scrivner is an incredible natural beauty range who has a wonderful approach to skin and the ingredients she chooses to use within her products. I have been using the day and night balms religiously and they have ensured that my skin is fighting pigmentation, building collagen and elastin and getting all the health it needs.
Jane Scrivners cleansing balm (Nourishing Cleanser) is also my go-to for gentle and thorough make up removal. It literally melts makeup away while keeping skin soft, supple and calm (no rubbing irritations!).
SPACE:
This one I think is one of the biggest elements to why my skin transformed into clear, healthy, glowing skin. I allowed it to just be. To breath, to remember how to function on its own without a millions of serums, potions and lotions. I would wear minimal make up, or only the LB cream from Share The Base. If I had had a quiet day without going out (so no makeup or SPF) and didn’t need to cleanse it at the end of the day with a cleanser I would just splash it with water and let it air dry giving it a bit of space to breath.
SILK: My skin (and hair) loves Slip
The older I get the more I enjoy having less, but quality of what I do have is crucial. One of these things is most definitely a silk pillow case. Not only is it extremely lovely to sleep on, the silk fibres don’t absorb my skin care, they don’t leave creases on my skin and they don’t cause irritation. It’s also kept my hair healthy (even through my postpartum hair loss it’s kept the new growth coming through). It is absolutely one of my must-have’s for healthy skin.
FEED IT FROM THE INSIDE OUT: My skin (hair and gut health) loves Habitual Beauty
I also started taking a collagen supplement that worked almost instantly on my skin, my energy and later once I had had Spencer and gone through my postpartum hair loss, my hair growth. There is so much research and studies now to back up collagen being beneficial when digested for your gut health, which in turns benefits your skin. I can absolutely attest to this making a difference on my skin firmness, reducing my pigmentation, evening out my skin tone and later promoting incredible hair growth!
I’d like to also point out, that I’m not receiving any commissions or benefits by promoting these brands – I just genuinely love the results they’ve given.
CONFIDENT LIVING ACROSS BEAUTY, WELLBEING & MOTHERHOOD.
